Weekend Staycation at the Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur with Club Access
We just had an awesome 2 night weekend staycation at The Ritz-Calrton Kuala Lumpur. We were staying at the Deluxe Room with Club Access on the 12th floor as part of my wife’s birthday celebration. The room we had was facing the city view overlooking The Westin KL and Tribeca Apartment Suites. We spent most of the time enjoying the facilities at the hotel, including breakfast at The Cobalt Room, afternoon tea and cocktail session at the Club Lounge, dining at The Library for the Sunday Roast brunch session and working out at the Gym. We did some shopping at The Pavilion with easy access using the direct link through the Starhill Gallery and just across the street from the exit of JW Marriott.

Verdict
Highlights:
- The Sunday Roast brunch experience – the quality of the food and wine was top-notch and the service from the staff was impeccable making it a memorable dining experience for me and my wife. Read about the Sunday Roast experience here.
- The hotel room and its facilities were very well-maintained and in pristine condition.
- The check-in experience was also very unique and personalized, with the staff escorting us from the lobby all the way to the room.
- The butler service was good. Our requests were promptly executed with minimal fuss.
Areas for Improvement:
- We felt that the buffet breakfast was average and typical spread that we would expect. There is not much to be desired or something new to look forward to. We did not try the breakfast at the Club Lounge.
- The Club Lounge was a bit of a disappointment. Besides its location on the ground floor without a view, the food and beverage on offer was mediocre at best. The capacity of the Club Lounge is also limited, and we had to move to the check-in area to have our cocktail session one evening. We felt that we had better experiences at The Westin KL and Sofitel Damansara KL.
- The complimentary birthday setup looked a bit comical and did not match the theme of the room at all. That said, we appreciated the effort of the staff in setting it up.
About Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur
The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur is part of the Marriott Bonvoy’s hotel group with current award category 5. The hotel award category determines the amount of points required for a free night redemption. So technically the higher the award category, the higher the number of points required for redemption of a night’s stay. I’m sure Marriott Bonvoy has its own way of assessing the award category, but it can be used as a gauge to judge the hotel’s quality and performance. Marriott Bonvoy’s hotel award category can go up to category 8 but in Malaysia, the highest award is category 6 which only 3 hotel properties qualify, i.e. The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi, The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur and The St. Regis Langkawi.
