Best Places for Wagyu Beef Steak in Penang

Wagyu beef is a highly coveted meat because of its incredibly tender and soft buttery flavor. The richness in flavor is due to its intense, fat marbling in the meat. A good quality, high grade piece of Wagyu will simply melt in your mouth like butter. Of course, the higher the grade and marbling, the higher the price you will need to pay at restaurants serving it. Ever since I tasted Wagyu beef, I was immediately an avid fan and often on the lookout for the best restaurants in Penang that are able to cook and serve this highly prized meat.

Of course, the Wagyu dining experience is never complete without wine pairing. You want to select a good bottle of wine which will not overpower the gentle palate of the Wagyu beef. A Pinot Noir or Bordeaux should bring out the very best and complement not dominate the flavors.

La Vie Penang

M6/M7 Wagyu Steak

La Vie Penang is a treasure find nestled within the old Georgetown streets of the Unesco Heritage site in Penang. Its dimly-lit and rustic furnishing provides for a romantic and cozy atmosphere. You will feel right at home as enter a relaxed, casual and welcoming atmosphere in the restaurant. La Vie serves M6/M7 wagyu beef steak cooked to perfection, tagliata-style. Their other signature is the thick and succulent wagyu beef cheek which looks irresistible and tastes divine.

Nasi Impit infused “pandan and Chili” served with their signature wagyu beef cheek.

Their menu varies according to the season so check first to avoid disappointment. La Vie has an extensive wine list which features New and Old World wines. Ask for recommendations if you are not sure.

Ferringhi Grill (Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort)

Every Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30pm to 10:30pm are reserved for fans of Roast Wagyu Prime Rib at Ferringhi Grill Rasa Sayang Penang. You will be in for a treat, enjoying juicy, tender prime rib with all the trimmings. The King’s cut goes for RM322nett while the Queen’s cut costs RM258nett. While there are no standardized names for the various portion sizes of prime rib, a bone-in chop is often referred to as the King cut, while a boneless version is called the Queen cut, and thin slices are known as English cut. With its romantic atmosphere, it is the perfect place to bring your other beef-loving half to taste one of the juiciest slab you can find in Penang.
