Intercontinental Phu Quoc Review (Club Access)

Xin Chao! We just came back from an incredible retreat at the Intercontinental Continental Phu Quoc Long Beach. The monsoon wind and mostly overcast skies during this time of the year did not hamper our mood at all. We spend 3 nights at the King Club Intercontinental Room. As IHG member, we got a special offer of stay 3 pay 2 nights which averages out to USD273 a night which was quite a steal. The resort is fairly new and all the facilities are at its top notch condition. The resort is located at the exclusive Long Beach area, 20 minutes from the airport and night market. You can rent a taxi from the hotel for 4 hours at 400k VND to explore the night market and other attractions at Phu Quoc.

Before we even arrive, we were contacted by the hotel to confirm our arrival time and to select our exclusive check-in either at the Club Intercontinental Lounge or in the comfort of our room. As we arrive after 2pm, we were escorted to the lounge for check-in as well as to enjoy our afternoon tea session. The afternoon tea was served in a 3-tier tray and the menu differs on a daily basis.

The resort is huge and it took us a while to find our coordinates and navigate around. The lobby is located on level 4, while the breakfast and Club Intercontinental Lounge is at level 2. We were residing on the 5th floor on the south wing where the Club Intercontinental Lounge was located.

Our room is a 49sqm with partial views of the ocean, slightly blocked by the tall palm trees. I guess another level higher, we would have uninterrupted views of the ocean. It doesn’t bother us much as we were out exploring the resort most of the time. The adjoining toilet had a bathtub overlooking the incredible horizon. Sunset lovers will adorn the panoramic views of the ocean from this angle.

We were looking forward to the evening cocktails session starting from 6:00pm to 8:00pm daily. The food on offer are mostly canapes and light bites, just enough to keep you fueled up but not entirely full. The alcoholic drinks on offer are quite extensive with ample selection of wine, sparkling wine, liquor, beer and even cocktails. As it is low season, there weren’t many guests around, we really enjoyed that extra bit of privacy and tranquility. We also relished the close interaction with the staff who were very hospitable and fluent in English communication.

The resort’s main pool is divided into the top and lower tier with plenty of sundecks and lounging area. We ordered some Mojitos and Lobster pasta from the poolside bar restaurant Ombra, but it wasn’t too impressive. For Club Intercontinental guests, there is a 10m private lap pool and sundecks for that extra privy.

The resort had white sandy beach which is considered private as there were no other properties nearby. Unfortunately the sea water was not as clear as we would have liked and there were rubbish floating around. But kudos to the hotel staff who worked tireless clearing the refuse as best they could.

For breakfast, we had the choice to dine at the Club Intercontinental Lounge or the main breakfast restaurant Sora & Umi. We chose to dine at Sora & Umi as there were more choices compared to the club lounge. Even though the choices were aplenty, nothing really stood out. Furthermore, we did not enjoy the Vietnamese iced coffee as compared to the one served at the club lounge. Apparently we were told that it was a different machine used which lead to the contrasting quality of the coffee.

After so many days of non-stop eating and drinking, we had to break sweat so we visited the gym for a workout. The threadmill and gym equipment were in excellent condition.

The hotel had a rooftop bar which it claimed was the highest in Phu Quoc, located at its 19th floor. As there were overcast skies, we were unfortunate not to capture breathtaking sunset views which we saw from the hotel photos. However, the night view of the hotel pool and surroundings was equally amazing.

Overall, we had an amazing 3 nights’ stay here and we would highly recommend this resort if you plan to visit Phu Quoc. This resort just converted us to Intercontinental fans and we plan to explore other Intercontinental properties around our region.
