Wine O’Clock at The Three Wines Bay Avenue, Penang
The Three Wines is a newly opened wine bar and restaurant at Bay Avenue, near Queensbay Mall. The Three Wines is located near the Bayan Lepas industrial area, ideal for happy hours after a tough day at work.
According to the owner, the name Three Wines was derived from the 3 most important factors for wine growing, i.e. Sunlight, Terroir and Climate. He is no stranger to the wine and food business, his earlier venture was the Villa Vino Tapas Bar and Restaurant at Summerton, now known as 130 Wine Bar and Restaurant. Being a wine aficionado and qualified sommelier, it is his passion to educate patrons about wine, the culture and its appreciation.
As you walk in the place, you will be greeted by a wall of wine stacked from floor to ceiling, a long table smack in the middle and a signboard reading Good Times Good Wines.
The decor may be minimialistic but the wines certainly are not. You will find new and old world wines from a wide range of prices available for your selection. The wine list may not be extensive but it is sufficient. I recognized some labels sourced from Luen Heng and Asia Euro.
It was the first time we tried out the Riedel performance glass. This unique Riedel range features a unique optic impact on the bowl that is not only visually appealing but also increases the inner surface area, allowing the wine to open up and fully sow every aroma and subtle nuance. The design is only on the inner walls of the glass, while the outer glass is perfectly smooth.
The Three Wines offer a variety of small bites, finger food and platter for sharing and to pair with the wines. Nice food, fine wines and a jolly good time. Reservations are recommended as the capacity is limited.
