Top 10 Netflix Shows to Watch during this MCO Lockdown Period

Thank god for Netflix! Having a Netflix subscription at this period of time is a blessing. Watching movies helped pass time and keeps our sanity in check. We don’t know how long this self-isolation and quarantine will sustain, but I’m sure everybody can’t wait for it to be over. Hopefully sooner than later.

So here are my top 10 movies and dramas to binge-watch if you are a Netflix subscriber.

1. Fifty Shades Freed (2018)

After watching the first and second installments of the Fifty Shades film trilogy, you kind of expect what is coming. Numerous times Anastasia disobeyed Christian resulting in a rendezvous at the red room for her “punishment” or does she deliberately misbehave? Nothing new but good entertainment at this period of time.

2. Kingdom (2020)

Just finished watching both Seasons 1 & 2 of this Zombie apocalypse political Korean suspense drama. Kingdom is about a crown prince who becomes the only hope against a mysterious plague overtaking the land amidst strange rumors about their ill King. One season is only a short 6 episodes and they are very addictive, so you may finish watching in a day. Looking forward to the 3rd season.

3. Crash Landing on You (2019)

The absolute top secret love story of a chaebol heiress who made an emergency landing in North Korea because of a paragliding accident and a North Korean special officer who falls in love with her and who is hiding and protecting her. Korean love dramas are not my favorite genre but I’m sure it bodes well with the ladies. The 16 episodes in Season 1 should keep you occupied for a while.

4. The Platform (2019)

A vertical prison with one cell per level. Two people per cell. One only food platform and two minutes per day to feed from up to down. An endless nightmare trapped in The Pit. A unique and strange story full of gory scenes, so try not to watch on a full stomach. The ending is a bit of an anticlimax though.

5. World War Z (2013)

Former United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop a zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatens to destroy humanity itself. This movie may be released for a while now but it is still a good movie to watch now since it teaches us good lessons in survival. Loved how Brad Pitt’s character escapes from impossible situations, learns about the zombie’s weaknesses and uses it against them.

6. Sex Education S2 (2020)

This is the story of a teenage boy with a sex therapist mother who teams up with a high school classmate to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school. Having watched Season 1, you would kind of expect what is coming in Season 2. More predictable and lack originality but good entertainment though.

7. Cargo (2017)

Amid a terrifying pandemic, a father searches the wilds of Australia for someone willing to care and protect for his infant daughter. Another zombie apocalypse edition, amid in a different situation and setting. Interesting to learn the lengths that the father would go through to protect his daughter even after he was infected.

8. A Quiet Place (2018)

In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing. This is one of my favorite movies for a very long time. This family had to overcome the odds to live in unimaginable silence, where even a small pop may mean the end of your live. Incredible suspense and unique in its own way.

9. Bird Box (2018)

Five years after an ominous unseen presence drives most of society to suicide, a mother and her two children make a desperate bid to reach safety. They have to stay blindfolded in order to survive this harrowing journey. Another great survival movie and who doesn’t love Sandra Bullock. A must watch!

10. In the Tall Grass (2019)

After hearing a young boy’s cry for help, a sister and brother venture into a vast field of tall grass in Kansas but soon discover there may be no way out…and that something evil lurks within. Written by Stephen King, you will be dazed in a maze and make sense of it upon reaching the end. Good entertainment but not something I would want to watch again.
