Good news Penangites! Internationally acclaimed Chef Ton Thitid Tassanakajohn, revered as a central figure among the elite “Great Chefs of the World,” is set to introduce his latest culinary endeavor, Sood by Chef Ton. This debut is poised to rejuvenate the historic Farquhar Mansion, situated in the heart of Georgetown, affectionately known as the “Pearl of the Orient.” The ceremonial signing between Chef Ton and Regal Blossom Sdn Bhd, scheduled for April 20, 2024, at the Marriott Hotel Penang, Salon 1, Level 2, will be honored by the presence of YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy. This significant occasion marks a pivotal moment in enhancing Penang’s vibrant tourism and creative economy sectors.

Sood by Chef Ton will be thoughtfully crafted to honor Penang’s rich history and culture. Soothr, properly pronounced “Sood” is the Thai word meaning “Recipe”. Following over six months of exploration in Penang, the interior design team has drawn inspiration from the locality’s heritage to shape the restaurant’s concept. The design will pay homage to the dynamic era of Georgetown, appealing to both locals and global visitors with its contemporary twist. Moreover, the menu at Sood will undergo a complete redesign tailored to the Penang market and its desired clientele. These culinary innovations will be personally curated by Chef Ton and his proficient executive chefs, in collaboration with local culinary talents, ensuring an unparalleled dining experience that seamlessly merges international creativity with local tastes.

Under Chef Ton’s visionary guidance, his acclaimed restaurants, Le Du, recipient of a Michelin star, and Nusara, acknowledged by the Michelin Guide, have secured the top positions, ranking No. 1 and No. 3 respectively, in the Top 50 Restaurants in Asia for 2023. “Penang’s diverse blend of cultures and flavors provides the perfect canvas for Sood,” remarked Chef Ton. “Our goal is to harmonize Penang’s cherished culinary traditions with cutting-edge global gastronomic innovations.” Sood by Chef Ton will also serve as a collaborative hub for both local and international chefs, fostering a melting pot of culinary ingenuity.

With Penang’s direct international flights and its status as the most visited state in Malaysia, Chef Ton envisions the region as the next frontier for luxury and lifestyle experiences. The unveiling of Sood will not only celebrate this new epicurean landmark but also affirm a commitment to nurturing local talent, offering them unparalleled opportunities to collaborate with globally renowned chefs.
