Penang Smart Parking App Upgraded with Find Parking and Credit Transfer
Ever since the launch of the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) app in 2019, Penangites have been blessed with the convenience of paying for parking and settling outstanding compounds. Gone are the days where we have of the scratch-off parking coupons and face long queues to clear our summons. Kudos to the Penang Government for doing a good job leading the digitalization and transformation of Penang into a green state.
Recently the PSP app has been further upgraded to include the “Find Parking” and “Credit Transfer” features. To enable this, you have to update your app to the latest version 2.0.3. The PSP app is developed by the state’s strategic partner HeiTech Padu Berhad. I have been testing the app’s new features and found it to be quite intuitive and easy-to-use. Find Parking
The “Find Parking” feature enable users to search for available spots in advance hence plan our trips more effectively. Thanks to the installation of wireless sensors on the parking lots similar to those implemented in shopping malls, we will be able to visualize the number of vacant parking lots from the app itself. With remote connectivity, the data can be fed live to the app, giving users an up-to-date information.
Thus far areas like Georgetown, Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas has a good coverage, while sensors are being installed in the rest of the areas in stages. Once you click on Find Parking, you will have a map of Penang with markers denoting the number of parking spots available. Now you can either select to search for the location you are heading or zoom in to each particular area to narrow down your search.
For example, if we would like to go to our favourite restaurant, we type in “La Vie” in the search box and it will bring up the parking spots available nearby. Once we click on the marker, it will bring up the parking sign “P” available upon which we can choose the preferred platform, either Waze or Google Maps to direct us there. What’s more we’ll get a notification if the parking slot has been occupied whilst we are hustling to get there.
For those who wish to find parking at mainland, you can do the same by switching the portal from City Council of Penang MBPP to Seberang Perai City Council MPSP. Once done, you will be follow the same steps above to search for parking lots.
Credit Transfer
Meanwhile, the credit transfer feature enable users to seamlessly transfer credit from their account to those on their contact list who has registered with PSP. This feature will be handy to the those who do not prefer or have challenges using the online reload facility.
