Marriott’s AC Hotel Debuts in Penang
It’s about time that the Marriott group finally decided to expand its presence in Penang. Aside from Macalister Mansion, AC Hotel is the group’s first international hotel chain making its debut here in Penang. Besides Penang, the AC Hotels are also opening properties in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang. This marked the design-led lifestyle brand’s first entry in the Asia- Pacific region. The 3 hotels are owned by YTL Hotels and were previously known as the Vistana brand.
AC Hotel Penang replaces the Vistana Hotel Bukit Jambul. It market itself as a modern, contemporary vibe and design. The hotel is strategically located as it is nearby the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone area. The hotel caters to international visitors and expats of world-class factories around this area also known as the Silicon Valley of the East. Many of them would be familiar with the Marriott brand which provides reliable and consistent service and stays.
The competition would be heating up in this area as a few more new 4-5 star hotels are already in the pipeline and scheduled to open within the next 2-3 years. This will definitely benefit and boost Penang’s hospitality industry. The new hotel scheduled to open this year is the 5-star business Amari Hotel adjacent to Setia Spice Arena. Currently, the preferred hotel to stay for visitors around this area are The Equatorial Hotel, Oliver Tree Hotel, Eastin Hotel and Vistana Hotel (now AC Hotel).
