Marriott Bonvoy 5-Star Hotels in Southeast Asia [Infographic]

Marriott Bonvoy is the new hotel loyalty brand launched in February 2019 merging the existing Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG). With the merger, customers can enjoy a single loyalty program with access to over 29 brands across 129 countries. Marriott Bonvoy brands itself into 4 different segments namely luxury, premium, select and longer stays each serving different markets. To identify the hotel status and number of points for free night redemption, Marriott Bonvoy established a hotel award category from 1 to the highest of 8. For example, a hotel with an award category of 2 would need 10,000 points for a free night redemption while it would require 70,000 points for a level 8 hotel. The award category is reviewed and updated regularly so it encourages the hotel to maintain a high quality or risk being demoted.

As such the Marriott Bonvoy hotel award category is a good indicator of the hotel’s performance and level of quality. Here’s an infographic I created based on the hotel award category 5 & above for a basic room stay for 2 adults with breakfast and tax on 7 December 2019.

Breakdown by Award Category and Room Cost

In Southeast Asia, there are three Category 8 hotels, five Category 7, twelve Category 6 and thirty one Category 5 hotels in total. For a night’s stay, there are thirty hotels under the cost bracket of $130-$250, twenty three hotels costing between $250-$500 and three hotels costing over $500.
