Kyochon is back in Penang?

In June 2019, Kyochon announced the closure of its sole outlet in Penang at G Hotel Gurney Drive to the dismay of many of its loyal fans and supporters. There were long queues as people swarm to get a last bite of that delicious crunchy Korean fried chicken before it officially closes on 14 July 2019.

After a year of hiatus, Kyochon has dropped some hints through its social media accounts that it will make a come back to Penang. Kyochon Malaysia posted a teaser on 26 August 2020 showing a Kyochon packaging on the famous Boy on Motorcycle street art piece by Ernest Zacharevic asking where will they bring the chicken to.

Another post on 29 August 2020 showed the Kyochon chicken riding on a trishaw at one of Penang’s iconic UNESCO heritage trails.

The location of the outlet is still a mystery but there are some indication that it will be based in Bayan Baru area as suggested by the post below.

Wherever the location is, there is only a slim chance that they will be serving draft beer and Soju to pair with the Korean fried chicken as we experienced at G Hotel Gurney.

Until we hear more details we will keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime, we will have to satisfy our cravings by making Kyochon-style Korean fried chicken at home. Here’s a video on the recipe.
