Exclusive Grand Opening of Orinea by Farquhar Mansion
Orinea by Farquhar Mansion celebrated its grand opening with a cocktail party on Friday 8th November 2019. Orinea had its soft launch a few months ago and had since been making waves in Penang’s fine dining scene. The event was priced at RM588++ for 2 pax which includes a bottle of G.H. Mumm Champagne for Sabrage, high-quality caviar, canapé, dinner buffet and live music. As paying customers, we had the privilege to dine at its VIP area and experience the Champagne Sabrage guided by a Sommelier.
Orinea is located at Sunrise Gurney, not to be confused with Sunrise Tower. The building is located next to Song River coffee shop facing Gurney Wharf. There is only street parking available, or a private car park next to it which charges RM10 per entry. Orinea is located on level 18 of Sunrise Gurney. To reach it, you have to switch elevators at the 2nd floor. The restaurant does have an unobstructed beautiful panoramic view of Gurney Drive and its surroundings which is best enjoyed during the day time.
Even though the event stated that it will start at 7pm, somehow we had to wait until after 9pm for our Champagne to be served. Also we were quite dissapointed by the long wait for the food as the live stations were manned by chefs who prepare the food on the spot. There was even a queue for the soup and oysters as it had to be constantly topped up. The restaurant should have done a better job at managing the food serving, judging by the large number of guests expected. No complaints on the food or the service though, the chefs and waiter(ress) were professional and did their mighty best amidst the havoc. Would have love to give them another try on a not too busy day.
