Not much is known of this place. It’s entrance is hard to locate and there’s no signboard. The entrance door is locked and we were not given any passcodes. And then the inner curiosity in you start to ask questions…”Another hidden bar?”. Then as you start to wonder “How do I get in”, someone suddenly opens the door and let us in. There you go!
Curioscity Penang is located at the former Awesome Canteen at Sekeping Victoria, just opposite the rear of China House. Its concept is casual fine dining, with a tasting menu that changes every other month. The space is dimly-lit with a high roof and plenty of greenery. The worn-out walls are also left in its natural state. It makes for a romantic and cozy ambience, perfect for small gatherings and special occasions. I think the place is also ideal for private events and small weddings ceremonies as it make for a picturesque scene especially if natural light were allowed to permeate the interior during the day.
The October tasting menu is a 8-course degustation menu starting with an appetizer followed by 5 small plates before the main and dessert as the finale. It is priced at RM328++ per pax with a glass of wine.
The food was excellent and delectable. The ingredients was fresh, taste was on the spot and portion-wise was adequate. However, we are not a fan of their natural wine which they have on offer. We enjoyed the overall experience, great friendly service and will return for another try.
