Review: Club J Restaurant Penang
Situated in the quiet Leandros lane, Chef Sean and his team of Club J Restaurant Penang has been dishing out Fusion casual dining cuisine since 2018. Housed in a single storey building home to former Bella Marino, Club J is accessible from both Kelawai and Burmah road. Club J has its own private parking space as well as nearby street parking. The place was quite packed when we visited on a Friday evening and the parking was fully occupied.
For dinner, you may choose from the 5-course Set Dinner Menu priced at RM128 or order from the ala-carte menu. The 5-course menu starts with a salad, followed by soup of the day, pre-main, mains and ends with a dessert. We are not big eaters, so we opt for a mix of the set menu and ala-carte for our group of 4.

Club J also serves lunch from 11:30am – 2:30pm. It offers complimentary soup or salad with every main course ordered. You may order desserts and coffee for an additional RM7.
Event Space
If you are looking for a space to host your event, be it birthday party, ROM celebration or corporate events, Club J has a private room with a capacity of up to 20 guests. With some decor, table arrangement and creativity, the space can be transformed into a stylish venue sure to impress your guests.
Conclusion
We were quite happy with the food quality and taste, offering a real value for money. The food portion was adequate and the presentation was impressive.
If there was an area for improvement, it would have to be in the beverage department. The wine list had limited wines on offer and they were mostly supplied by The Wine Shop. Also we would have preferred crystal wine glasses which has now become a must-haves and commonly available for restaurants serving wine. Corkage is charged at RM30 per bottle which is quite exorbitant. On top of that, there were no premium still or sparkling water on offer.
Would we come back? Yes, for the food but perhaps when they have a new wine list and crystal glassware available.
