Caroline Astor’s Diamond Brunch at Kayu Puti St Regis Langkawi

Dubbed the Rolls Royce of Sunday brunches, Caroline Astor’s Diamond Brunch made its debut on 6 September 2020 at Kayu Puti Restaurant at The St Regis Langkawi. Priced at RM320 per pax and RM570 per pax with free flow of Champagne, wine and cocktails. This is surely one of the best, most lavish and finest brunches you will ever experience with a panoramic view of the Andaman sea to match.

The Caroline Astor’s Diamond brunch was announced on St Regis Langkawi’s Facebook on 28 August 2020 and we were glad that it falls on the Sunday of our trip to Langkawi. Even though we were staying at Ritz Carlton Langkawi, a 40-minute drive away, we promptly booked as it was such a rare opportunity to experience such brunches in Malaysia.

The brunch was held at St Regis’ signature restaurant Kayu Puti. The venue boasts the idyllic venue for a romantic meal, patrons enjoy uninterrupted views of the Andaman Sea and tropical greenery at the outdoor terrace. Kayu Puti’s haute Asian-inspired specialities consist of treasured regional traditions and cherished familial recipes updated with contemporary techniques. Relish inventive menus presented with theatrical flair at your tableside.

Kayu Puti is helmed by Executive Chef Mandy Goh, originally from Penang, who joined earlier this year. Chef Mandy is well-traveled and boasts an impressive resume, her previous roles were as Chef de Cuisine at Shanghai’s Fifty 8° Grill Restaurant by Michelin-starred Chef Richard Ekkebus, The Manor at The St. Regis Macao and Michelin-starred Restaurant Guy Savoy. We’re proud to have such a talented Penagnite!

The brunch starts at 12pm, prior to that there was an Aperitif session from 11:30am onwards where we enjoyed a champagne sabering event and plenty of cocktails to kick-start from the signature Lang Mary, Bloody Mary, Cosmopolitan, Aperol Spritz and Negroni.

The champagne of choice was the Taittinger Brut Reserve NV, Reims. While there were 2 red and white wines options to choose from, Shearwater Savignon Blanc, Marlborough Caneletto Pinot Grigio, Delle Venezie Shearwater Pinot Noir, Marlborough and Caneletto Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.

The food menu consisted of 5 Amuse Bouché, 7 seafood apetizers and dishes, 4 artisan brunch egg dishes, 6 ala carte options, a beef steak from the trolley, 5 selection of desserts and selection of bordier artisan cheese. It was truly a food ultra-marathon of the highest quality.

The food presentation was extremely attractive when you consider it is a Sunday brunch. Each dish was meticulously prepped and curated by the chef. It is worthy of a Michelin star experience!

4 hours of amazing food and wine at such a beautiful location is what makes this an unforgettable experience. I hope they can keep this brunch going and am looking forward to our next visit in the not too distant future. Next time we’ll probably stay at The St Regis Langkawi.
