Bubbly Breakfast at The St Regis Langkawi
The Buffet Breakfast at St Regis Langkawi is always a highly anticipated experience for us during our 4 nights’ stay here. L’Orangerie serves buffet breakfast every morning from 7am till 11am. Yes, you read it right till 11am! The venue is reminiscent of a European glass-encased green house, serves Asian and Middle Eastern-infused modern French cuisine from a sleek, marble open kitchen, set against the indelible backdrop of Langkawi’s rainforest.
An endless supply of food
L’Orangerie serves a buffet of international and local food of the highest quality. We loved the dim sum, steamed pork buns, nasi lemak, pancakes, local tropical fruits just to name a few. There were so much food on offer that we were spoilt for choices. I would say the nasi lemak was the highlight of the buffet breakfast, specially concoct and served to you on a traditional banana leaf rattan plate holder. The sambal was spicy and packed a punch which was very authentic.
Breakfast Menu
There’s more breakfast options with a huge breakfast menu available for unlimited orders. The menu consists of eggs in different variations, chef;s creation, live station, freshly squeezed juices, healthy elixirs, coffee, TWG tea selections and artisanal iced teas and smoothies. Our favorites were the river lobster omelette, steak and eggs, chachouka and cheese makhani.
The Bubbly
The beverage of choice during breakfast must be the French Sparkling Wine “Arthur Metz” from Alsace. Many people confused it with Champagne, but only sparkling wines originating from the Champagne region can be named Champagne. Remember that all Champagne is sparkling wine, but not all sparkling wine is Champagne. We had no complaints though as sipping bubbly over breakfast was quite a rarity nowadays at most luxury hotels. What more the bubbly was served on top quality glassware from Schott Zwiesel brands.
The iconic Bloody Mary of St Regis hotels was also on offer during breakfast. We made our own Lang Mary with pandan infused-vodka and mimosas to enhance our breakfast experience. The Lang Mary is an exotic interpretation of the iconic St. Regis Bloody Mary, the Lang Mary evokes the soaring spirit of Langkawi, which means “island of the reddish-brown eagle” in colloquial Malay. The cocktail unites the flavor of local pandan with tamarind and silky heads, or lemongrass, for an aromatic citrus twist on the classic.
The Verdict
This was the one of the best, if not the best breakfast buffet experiences I’ve ever had at a luxury hotel. The food, drinks and ambiance was top notch without a doubt. Furthermore, the extended breakfast hours till 11am means we can skip lunch most of the days. If only there was an area of improvement was the lack of staff attention and the long turn-around-time for orders from breakfast menu.
