Staycation: Angsana Teluk Bahang, Penang
As soon as the government announced the MCO being downgraded to CMCO, we took the opportunity to go for a short staycation at the newest luxury hotel in Penang, Angsana Teluk Bahang.
Under the umbrella of Banyan Tree hotels, Angsana Teluk Bahang opened in October 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Angsana Teluk Bahang is located at the northwestern tip of Penang, Teluk Bahang was a fishing village evolving into a tourist destination with a number of attractions built within the vicinity of the town, most notably the Teluk Bahang dam and Escape theme park, the largest theme park in Malaysia.
Angsana Teluk Bahang’s design and architecture is contemporary and vibrant, adorned with locally-inspired Peranakan Nyonya’s theme and aesthetics. There are a variety of accommodation options from the resort’s collection of 250 rooms and suites, all offering amazing uninterrupted views of the Andaman sea. The hotel offers five restaurants and bar, state-of-the-art meetings and events facilities and an adjacent wellness centre.
We checked in to the 57sqm Deluxe Room located at the Kerongsang Wing. The room is very spacious and comes with a King-sized bed, 49-inch Smart TV, bathtub, living and dining area, microwave oven and complimentary mini bar drinks (one-time). The room has an oversized balcony with lounging chair and table for you to enjoy the sunset or a bit of sunbathing. For detailed room and facilities tour, you may watch YouTube video below.

Verdict
A very enjoyable and relaxing staycation even though it was very short. Teluk Bahang seems to be a world apart and away from the hustle and bustle of the city life in Penang. The hotel and its facilities are new and worthy of 4-star hotel standards. We had breakfast and afternoon tea at the Jendela, and ordered in-room dining – the food was delicious and did not disappoint at all. The hotel had an excellent happy hour promotion and we loved that they offered premium Riedel glassware. The service was also top-notch and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Perhaps an area of improvement is their facilities management and control, specifically the swimming pool attire regulation which was non-existence. We had wanted to go for a dip in their luscious infinity pool but were dismayed with the poor control of guest swimming attire. We had seen many guests in plain clothes without proper swimming attire dipping freely without hesitation, potentially contaminating the pool with waterborne diseases.
Would love to be back some day and hopefully they can fix the pool issue.
