Afternoon Tea at Penang Marriott Hotel with Panoramic Views of Gurney Bay
The newly opened Penang Marriott Hotel along Gurney Drive is offering a gourmet afternoon tea with a view to match. It is the first time we stepped into the hotel since its opening and we didn’t actually plan for this experience. We stumbled upon this exquisite afternoon tea while checking out the new place for some drinks.
Marriott Penang’s Panoramic Afternoon Tea is available daily from 2:30pm till 5:30pm at La Siena, located at Level 4. It is priced at RM98+ per adult or RM49+ per child (6 to 11 years old). To enhance the experience, you may order drinks by the glass for an additional charge. If you opt for the highly recommended Prosecco it is RM50 per flute, while House wines and selected cocktails are priced at RM30 per glass.
We ordered a set of the afternoon tea to share and a bottle of the Santa Margherita Prosecco (same label served at the executive lounge M Club during evening cocktails). The afternoon tea was presented in a classic three-tier tray, made up of sweet, savory and sandwiches while scones are served on a separate plate.
Bottom Tier (Sandwiches)
At the base of the tiered tray, you’ll find an assortment of sandwiches meticulously arranged to tempt your palate. These delicacies include Seafood Salad Open Faced Sandwich, Smoked Salmon and Avocado Open Faced Sandwich, Cherry Tomato and Basil Bruschetta, Turkey and Cranberry Finger Sandwich and Dark Rye Cucumber and Cream Cheese Finger Sandwich.
Middle Tier (Savory)
Moving up to the middle tier, you’ll discover the savory delights such as Chicken Pie, Mushroom Pastie and Salmon with Leek Quiche.
Top Tier (Sweets)
Finally, the top tier of the tray is adorned with an array of exquisite sweet treats, each one a miniature work of art. Those with a sweet tooth will appreciate the Mini Fruit Tartlets, Cherry Cheesecake, Bois de Chocolate and Pistachio and Mango Eclair.
Plated Separately (Scones)
On a separate plate, you’ll discover the crown jewel of any English afternoon tea—the scones. There are 2 types of scones provided, the plain and cranberry scones. These warm, buttery treats are accompanied by Homemade Strawberry Jam & Rose Apple Jam and Clotted Cream.
Beverage
Included in the package are a wide selection of premium TWG teas and coffees. You may choose from English Breakfast Tea, French Earl Grey Tea, Royal Darjeeling Tea, Emperor Sencha Green Tea, Jasmine Queen Green Tea, Silver Moon Green Tea, Marrakesh Mint Herbal Tea and Chamomile Herbal Tea. As for coffee, you may opt for Americano, Cappuccino, Café Latte, Flat White, Espresso, Doppio and Decaffeinated Coffee.
Conclusion
The Panoramic Afternoon Tea at Penang Marriott Hotel is a worthwhile experience to check out. The quality and taste of the delicacies are up to standard and the portions are considerably big (it is good to share for 2). While the culinary offerings are undoubtedly exquisite, it’s the panoramic views of Gurney Bay that elevate the afternoon tea experience to new heights. As you sip your tea and savor each bite, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking vista of the azure waters and bustling coastline below.

1. Book in advance. Request for the corner seat in front for a more cosy and relaxing experience with unobstructed views.
2. Stay on for the sunset hour, a selection of three glasses of wine, beer or cocktails at special prices. The sunset views from here will be amazing on a clear day.
