Penang Korean Food: Hanjan Eatery and Soju Bar

Hanjan Eatery and Soju Bar has been around since 2018 and continues to wow the crowds till today. Located at Campbell Street, Hanjan is in the vicinity of Georgetown’s UNESCO heritage site.

Hanjan offers tasty Korean food with a chic bar as its centerpiece. The large window panels of the restaurant’s façade enable one to see the charming interior especially at night as we drive pass the quiet street.

Once you step in the restaurant, you will be charmed by its warm, rustic and cozy ambiance. One thing you wouldn’t experience is the smelly BBQ odor from poorly ventilated systems in typical Korean restaurants; which is a big plus as I can’t stand leaving the place with our hair and clothes smelling like our meal. The low lighting and soft background music immediately puts you into the right mood for an enjoyable evening.

Hanjan’s food menu is not extensive but it is adequate and pairs well with their beverage on offer. It consist of the Anju and main, such as noodles and rice. Anju is a Korean term for food consumed with alcohol, similar to Spanish Tapas.

As it’s name suggest, Hanjan is a soju bar so you could find a variety of Soju drinks such as Premium Jeju Island Soju (21% ABV), flavored Soju, Soju Bomb and the popular Somaek which is a combination of soju and beer. On top of that, they offer wine, cocktails, beer, vodka and gin so you can be assured of a bibulous time.

The dishes were flavorful and tasty; our favorite were Buidak, Muneo, Jogae and Jjigae. Top it up with the Premium Jeju Soju and Korean beer combination for an unforgettable evening. The staff are friendly, helpful and food service is very efficient. We had been here countless times and its suffice to say that the quality of the food and service is excellent on all counts. Our favorite and one of the best Korean restaurants in Penang.

The place is usually full, so advance reservation is a must.
