E&O Hotel Penang: Re-opening of its Iconic Heritage Wing

After a 9-month extensive refurbishment exercise, the Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel Penang finally reopens the iconic Heritage Wing on 1 December 2019. The newly refurbished suites now feature a brighter concept with more natural light and a softer colour scheme while retaining the signature twin vanities and long bath. Simultaneously, E&O is also introducing new culinary experiences as its celebrates both classic and heritage flavours with three new dining outlets – Java Tree, Palm Court and Farquhar’s Bar.

The Suites

Deluxe Suites

Deluxe Suites are furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds overlooking the E&O’s magnificent seafront. Each suite features a comfortable seating area with expansive windows and doors that let in bountiful light and open to the view of the Andaman Sea. Natural wood floors, floor to ceiling plantation shutters and antique furnishings evoke the nostalgia of the colonial era in Penang.
The spacious and luxurious bathroom open to a lavish bathtub, flanked by a vanity sink on each side, and a separate shower. All suites are equipped with a UHD flat screen television with satellite channels, Nespresso coffee making machine, a tea station and a mini bar.

Straits Suite

Over-sized suite with two bay windows, main lounge area with guest restroom, writing desk area and dining table overlooking the Straits of Malacca. Its opulent bathroom includes a claw and ball long bath with separate shower stall equipped with “His” and “Her” hand basins. Extremely spacious and opulent, Strait Suites feature two bay windows, a living lounge with guest restroom, a writing area and a dining table. All suites open to picturesque sea view and are furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds. Premier Suite

Available as a choice between balcony or garden terrace, all Premier Suites are sea-facing and furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds. Each suite features a comfortable seating area with expansive windows and doors that let in bountiful light and open to the view of the Andaman Sea. Georgetown Suites

George Town Suites are furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds overlooking the city. Each suite features three spacious areas – a lounge, a bedroom and a luxurious bathroom, with double-glazed glass windows that open to the streets of George Town. Natural wood floors, floor to ceiling plantation shutters and antique furnishings evoke the nostalgia of the colonial era in Penang. The spacious and luxurious bathroom open to a lavish bathtub, flanked by a vanity sink on each side, and a separate shower. The Restaurants

Java Tree

Named after the iconic java tree that has stood on the E&O’s seafront garden lawn even before the property was built, this semi-formal dining restaurant exudes a relaxed style with simple elegance. A celebration of heritage flavours, the Java Tree’s menu blends the best of Straits Nyonya and classic European cuisines, complemented by fine wines and beverages.

Palm Court

Palm Court pays homage to the multi-cultural heritage of Penang with Indian and Malay inspired creations as well as Chinese noodle favourites, while casual international fare that include burgers and salads add to the broad menu selection. For the quintessential E&O experience, the three-tiered English afternoon tea that is presented here is a classic not to be missed.

Farquhar’s Bar

Farquhar’s Bar is a handsome vintage cocktail bar featuring a classic long bar of oak and brass, its lush interiors decorated with antique fittings and plush leather sofas. Whether you fancy a refreshing cocktail or a cool pint, relax with your favourite drink and enjoy a view of Penang’s waterfront.
