Penang Smart Parking for Senior Citizens
In line with the Penang government’s effort to go green, the state has launched the Penang Smart Parking app and announced that paper-based coupons had ceased selling since Dec 31 2019, while the balance stock you have need to be depleted by Dec 31 2020.
This bold move certainly go well the with younger generation, however the not so tech-savvy senior citizens may face major challenges in paying for parking. Some may not even own a smartphone, let alone familiarize themselves to operate the smart parking app.
What are the options for Senior Citizens?
Fortunately, there are some solutions for senior citizens and public users without the Penang Smart Parking app. The following are the available options:
i. Electronic coupons (e-Coupons) which are sold through agents.
ii. Payment can be done by a third party such as a child or relative.
E-coupons are sold through the E-coupon Agent List. The e-coupons can be purchased from the agents at different locations around Penang. These agents are either free-roaming or are located nearby the location stated.
How does the E-Coupon work?
You may either contact the agents prior to reaching the location or call them as soon as you acquired a parking lot. My advice would be to call them ahead to confirm their location before you arrive at your destination.
The agents will help to book the parking slot using the app for you and you pay them on the spot. My understanding is there will not be any additional fee imposed by these agents. You may request for a receipt after the transaction has completed.
It’s that simple, but how reliable and ubiquitous remains to be seen. If you would like to learn how to use Penang Smart Parking app, read my earlier article here.
