If you’re a seafood lover in Penang, you’ve probably heard whispers about Crab Village in Tanjung Bungah — a humble, family-run spot with a direct connection to the famous Tua Pek Kong Temple Seafood Restaurant. In fact, the owner here is a close relative of that legendary seafood house, so expectations run high.
Ambience & Setting
Crab Village keeps things simple and fuss-free. The open-air, no-frills setting is perfect for a laid-back evening where the focus is entirely on the food. There’s an on-site car park, but spaces are limited. If you end up parking along the street, there’s usually an attendant who charges RM5.
💡 Tip: Book ahead, especially if you’re after their sought-after roe crabs — they tend to run out fast.
The Crab Experience
Here, crabs are sold by the kilo, with a minimum order of 1kg priced at RM130. We arrived a little too late for the roe-filled beauties, but still got to enjoy the equally sweet and succulent roe-less “bak chim” crabs — cooked simply to let the natural flavours shine.
The crabs arrived piping hot, the shells yielding tender, flaky meat with every crack. Messy? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.
Beyond the Crab
We added 500g of prawns (RM55) to the feast — fresh, juicy, and perfectly cooked. On top of that, we ordered a few side dishes:
Stir-fry clams – briny and aromatic, with a good balance of heat and savouriness.
Vegetables & Loh Bak – both prepared at a small side stall run by the owner’s daughter.
Unfortunately, the fried rice had already sold out, and unlike Tua Pek Kong, they don’t serve fried bee hoon here. The owner, ever accommodating, allowed us to tapao from the neighbouring “Tsunami Village” to complete our meal — a rare, thoughtful gesture.
Drinks & Corkage
We brought along our own wines, paying RM10 per bottle corkage and an additional RM3 for a bucket of ice to chill them. There’s also a RM1 per person charge if you don’t order drinks from the restaurant — fair enough considering the casual setup.
Service, Payment & Vibe
Service is warm and personal, with the owner often seen chatting with customers. The pace is unhurried — the kind of place where you eat with your hands, laugh with friends, and savour every bite.

Final Thoughts
Crab Village isn’t about white tablecloths or elaborate plating — it’s about fresh seafood, honest flavours, and that unmistakable Penang seaside charm. The link to Tua Pek Kong shows in the quality of the crabs and prawns, though the menu is smaller.
